Effect of Soil Erosion on our Agriculture (Nigeria)

Effect of Soil Erosion on our Agriculture (Nigeria)
Soil Erosion has really been causing a lot destruction in our agricultural life here in Nigeria. Soil erosion is the wearing away of the top soil by natural physical forces of water or wind.

Areas like the Southeastern side of Nigeria experience much  soil erosion at least every year and this is really having bad effects on crops and animals.
Soil erosion has really been causing a lot of troubles in the life of Nigerian farmers and has been affecting lives negatively and has been causing hunger to some families in Nigeria.
When there is soil erosion occurrence, it causes the tearing away of the top soil in a farm and there by expose the plants to direct sunlight and  pests and there by uplifts the roots of these plants in the farm and after sometime, without the farmers attention or solution, the plants dies and may  dry up.
This is a list of the effects of soil erosion:
1.    Soil Degradation
2.    Deforestation
3.    Flooding
4.    Structural problems
5.    Death of plants
Erosion are popularly known to be caused by these two main factors which are:
ü Water
ü Wind
We now all know the effect of soil erosion and factors that could cause this soil erosion, but the question now is how do we control this soil erosion so our plants can live and our soil can remain fertile?
Here are some basic helping solution to that question on soil erosion:
1.    Control runoff before it develops into erosive force
2.    Early planting
3.    Contour ploughing
4.    Contour barriers
5.    Building of retaining walls
